Anyone going through a divorce or considering a divorce knows that the number of important decisions to go over is limitless. What also seems limitless is a number of additional expenses and emotionally charged interactions that need to take place between you and your spouse.

At EverPresent, we are honored that we can help solve one of the problems that people face when going through a divorce, and that’s helping people duplicate their photos and videos to then use that work to create something new. With the technology available today, everyone involved in a divorce can have a copy of the memories of their children or marriage that once was that they hold dear. We’ve helped families recreate baby books and wall art, restore photos to no longer include certain individuals and on a much larger scale worked with families to navigate the much needed project of replicating thousands of photos and converting or duplicating hundreds of videos so everyone has a copy.

If you are going through a divorce, please know there is a company that can help, and please read our helpful tips below.

1. MAKE DIGITIZING OR DUPLICATING PART OF YOUR DIVORCE AGREEMENT

homepage-oldNo matter the state of your photos (digital or in the old magnetic albums from years ago), we can help get those images to you without compromising the integrity of the originals. We can also scan important memories beyond photos—scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, artwork and more! Same for your videos. VHS tapes, Flipcam or phone videos, we can help get those back into your life.

Unfortunately, most people find EverPresent after their divorce has already happened and disagreements begin once one party realizes they no longer have access to their children’s photos and videos. Of all the things you might be walking away from or leaving behind, don’t let your photos and videos be one of them. Judges and attorneys understand this request. Make it one of yours.

2. MAKE SURE BOTH PARTIES HAVE AGREED ON WHAT’S BEING DIGITIZED OR REPLICATED AND HAVE REVIEWED AN ESTIMATE AND AGREED UPON A COST.

Most families don’t realize the sheer volume of photos and videos they have accumulated from decades of marriage and numerous children. The number could easily be over 20,000 images. Consequently, this project will cost more than you anticipate. If you are very targeted in what you want, you may only be looking at hundreds of dollars, but most families are looking at $1,000-$4,000 to get everything on a hard drive and backed up on your own private website.

Also, don’t forget that when are you considering doing this project, that both sides may have ancestral photos that they other parties may not want to pay to digitize. We don’t have advice here, but it’s something to be aware of.

3. THIS PROJECT IS A PAY OFF FOR BOTH SIDES. YOU ARE NOT DOING THIS FOR YOUR EX; YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR YOUR CHILDREN.

digitalIf you happen to be reading this blog post and are the lucky holder of all the original photo and videos from your children and your ex is trying to convince you to do this project but you are hesitant about spending the money know that YOU NEED TO DO THIS PROJECT TOO! Yes, it’s not great that you are doing the project under this circumstance, but every family should have duplicates of their photos and videos. If you have old images that are only printed and not on the computer, you must get those digitized for your kids. You need to have a hard drive back-up locked away in a safety deposit box, and you are going to want copies of those albums you spent time on, so your kids can have their own copy when they leave home. Doing this project is a win-win for everyone. Not to mention that so many of our clients use their new-found organized digital archive to make gifts for family members or their children.

4. WORK WITH THIRD PARTY PROFESSIONALS TO ASSURE THAT THE WORK IS DONE WITHIN THE BUDGET AND TIMELINE SPECIFIED IN YOUR AGREEMENT.

If you have been diligently reading this blog post, but we haven’t yet mentioned your specific problem know that our company can basically help with any problem you may have with your photos and videos during a divorce. Things like:

5. MAKE THIS IMPORTANT PROJECT A POSITIVE FOR YOUR FAMILY.

There are few families in the modern world that haven’t felt the grief and strain from a divorce, but we have found the families that have worked with us during or after a divorce feel a huge sense of relief and joy that they have completed this project. What we always try to tell people at the end of a digitizing or duplicating project is to now go and do something fun with your photos and videos. Give yourself a payoff. Some ideas include, wall art for your new place, printed photos for your children, new photo books that didn’t exist before or something really easy is buying a digital frame that sits in your living room for everyone to enjoy photos they maybe haven’t seen in years! Children love to see and relive images from their past. And while it may be difficult for you, it could be hugely important to your children as they too work to navigate their new reality.
