“I just want to tell you that I just picked up the books and am overwhelmed at how truly beautiful they are. They are works of art and I can’t thank you enough for all the amazing work you did to make them possible.” – Lois W.R.
Lois’s book was highlighted in the Wall Street Journal feature article. It was a Christmas gift for her sons made up of their family recipes. She didn’t want to add any photos, aside from the one featured on the cover. Since it contained older recipes, we kept the look simple and clean. She included meaningful newspaper clippings from her mother, to capture her spirit along with her recipes for her grandchildren.
Cookbooks are not one size fits all:
Scanned recipe books
Recipe books built entirely from your collection of scanned recipe cards and clippings include the recipe cards in their original form, rips, stains and all. If you like, include family photos — particularly those featuring cooking or breaking bread together! Your designer will discuss additional personalization touches with you to make it truly one-of-a-kind.
Typeset cookbooks
If you want to turn your family recipe cards into a fresh new cookbook, you can work with our designers on transcribing the recipe cards into text and using the scanned cards and photos as accents. We will standardize the typesetting of all of your recipes from different sources for consistency and professional polish.
Cookbook “Scrapbook” Recreations
Oftentimes family recipes are already contained within a book that’s now too fragile to be referenced in the kitchen. We’ll scan the full pages into a sturdy, revitalized cookbook for the entire extended family to share.

“EverPresent was able to take over a three year project that I was not able to find the time to do and create a lovely cookbook of my grandmother’s original recipes that she wanted to share with all of the family members. As the recipient of the originals, I felt I had a pretty heavy responsibility and EverPresent was able to do what I couldn’t on my own … the joy that my grandmother experienced in receiving a beautiful compilation of a lifetime of her coming that meant so much to so many in our family.

Everything you need to know
about photo book services
How do I choose the recipes?
It’s tough to choose and organize the best photos and recipes for a family cookbook. Your consultant can help pinpoint the recipe clippings, cards, printouts and pictures you want to scan. Bonus points for shots of your family enjoying these meals! Keep the number and size of your scans in mind, too – one recipe might need two separate scans, and larger page scans will take up more space in your cookbook than recipe cards.
How does the design process work?
Most of our clients start by having us digitize their recipe cards and clippings and any photos they wish to include. You’ll discuss your project needs and goals with your consultant and designer before we begin. We will provide a series of digital drafts for you to review and comment on along the way. After you approve the final draft, your book is printed and shipped to you so you can start enjoying it! For a more detailed overview, visit our general Photo Book design page.
What is the difference between a scanned recipe photo book and a typset cookbook?
A recipe book is made up of scanned images of handwritten or typed recipe cards, as well as those favorite clippings and printouts we all have in our collections. With a typeset cookbook, we will format and lay out the typed recipes you’ve submitted for a clean, unified, professional cookbook look. You can include photos in both types of books. Please note that due to of the larger amount of typesetting and proofreading required, typeset projects are more time-consuming to create than scanned recipe books.
What about my videos?
We can digitize those, too. If you’re already sending us photos to scan, it’s a great time to get your VHS tapes and 8mm film reels converted. And since we’re on the subject, Photo Books aren’t your only option for gorgeous custom design projects! Consider a video montage to blend photo, movies, and music in a unique presentation for a family reunion or get-together.
