Large Format Scanning Service
EverPresent’s photo team knows there’s no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ scanning approach. Our large format scanning service is ideal for big photos and oversized documents.
Some of your large format memories are just too big for a normal scanner. Our standard scanners max out at 8.5 by 11 inches. But don’t worry – we’ve got your back!
EverPresent has extra-big machines that scan items up to 12.2 by 17.2 inches. These are the best scanners for artwork and posters bigger than a sheet of printer paper. Ditto for the news clipping of Nana’s centennial.
We use another technique if your photos, oversized documents and paintings are too big for these large format scanners. First, our expert photo team scans these items in smaller chunks. Then we merge the files together to make a seamless digital copy. This process is called ‘stitching.’
Large photos and other media are often damaged as they’re tough to store. Glass frames are fragile. Newspapers wear out at the creases if they’re folded for too long. Take advantage of our large scanning services for these formats. You’ll be glad you did!

Common questions about Large Format Media
Can you remove large photos from frames before scanning?
Yes, we prefer to take these out of their frames! Scanners cause glare when they shine light on the glass. Removing the glass makes it easy to get a better digital copy.
What about large frames with paper on the back?
Some high-end frames trap photos inside until you cut through the brown paper backing. While we can cut these for you, we never want to harm your memories. We may just clean the glass pane and then scan these items right through it. We don’t have the tools to fix custom frames in-house. But many of our local partners offer this service.
Are some items too big to scan and stitch?
Not in terms of size, but some plaques and frames are heavy and abrasive. They can break or scratch the glass on our large format scanners. If an item could harm our gear, we might offer to photograph it instead. The end result is still a high-quality digital file that saves your story for years.
Is it expensive?
Oversized documents and large photos cost more to scan than smaller media. They take more time, labor and gear. However, our scanning experts work quickly to keep your project affordable. Our consultants will ensure we stick to your budget while preserving your past.
Sharing & archiving Oversized Media
Once your large artwork and newspapers are digital, there are several ways to customize your family archive. The family portrait on your mantle can be part of a slideshow to play at the next reunion. You can even share these design projects with the whole family through social media!
If you’re an artist who works with large prints, we can build a website that shows your work in a custom portfolio. Have any big newspaper pages you’d like to save? Think about a photo book that shrinks them down and fits on your coffee table!
When your large format scanning project is done, we return the digital files on your choice of DVDs, USB flash drives or cloud storage. For more secure storage, you can pick more than one storage option and get backup copies of your whole archive.
Just because you have some large items doesn’t mean there’s no room for them in your digital legacy. One of our clients gave us oversized documents with family trees and maps of their hometown. Our oversized item scanning service put these behemoths in a digital library that was easy to view. Now this client’s history is more secure. And she can carry those 3 by 5 foot family trees in a flash drive the size of her thumb.
