Convert Floppy Disk to Digital
The floppy disk was integral to the development of the personal computer back in 1967.A mere 50 years ago! Originally an 8-inch piece of flimsy magnetic film they developed into a more rigid, portable diskette which was common in the 1990 and early 2000s. Slightly smaller than a CD, they’re light, easy to label and were commonly used for many decades until the CD and USB provided more storage space and easier data management. Most computers made in the last decade no longer come with a floppy disk reader leaving you to use an external drive to access them.
As a discontinued data storage device the floppy disk joins many other formats that must use special readers to access them. At EverPresent we offer the ability to read all types of storage formats and we’ll convert your floppy disk to digital or transfer your floppy disk to a DVD.
With a small storage capacity the floppy disk can hold from 1-100 digital images depending on photo size and type of floppy disk, however, this is rare because digital cameras were not very common until the 2000’s. They were most commonly used for running computer programs and transferring documents. There were a couple digital cameras in the late 1990’s that used floppy disks before USB or memory cards were invented but these only lasted a few years.
While not having a large storage capacity they were great for transferring documents and photos when it was easy to pop them into a computer. Still, as the age of the floppy disk has ended they will continue to be forever recognized as the universal Save icon in most computer programs.
